  10. This program is SHAREWARE, distribution of the UNREGISTERED 
  11. version of this program is encouraged as long as it is copied 
  12. in whole and remains unaltered.  No fee may be asked for this 
  13. program itself, but a nominal distribution fee may be charged 
  14. for the diskette used to distribute this software as long as 
  15. the purchaser of said diskette is informed that the fee for 
  16. acquiring the diskette does not constitute payment of the

  20. What is this program?
  21.   
  22.   1. This is screen saver for windows that will use your own 
  23.      pictures and midi files. If you prefer, you can use the 
  24.      picture files provided with the program.  This program 
  25.      will also play songs from your CD-ROM if you have one.  
  26.      You can listen to music as your pictures are being 
  27.      displayed.  You can select Password protection if 
  28.      desired.  You can leave a message on the screen for 
  29.      visitors while you are away.

  31.   2. This program can be used from the Program Group that 
  32.      it makes for windows, or it can be installed as a 
  33.      standard Window's Screen saver from Window's desk top. 
  34.      It can be used as both.
  35.   
  36.   3. If you have installed this program as a screen saver, 
  37.      but want to use it immediately from the program manager 
  38.      to leave a message or make your system password 
  39.      protected while you have to be temporarily away, you 
  40.      can do this by double clicking the Custom Screen Saver 
  41.      Icon.  If Custom Screen Saver is running from the 
  42.      program manager, it will not invoke itself as a screen 
  43.      saver even if the amount of time has passed to call it 
  44.      as a screen saver from the desktop.  This allows you 
  45.      to use the Custom Screen Saver in either or both 
  46.      capacities at once.

  48. What is SHAREWARE?  
  49.   
  50.   1. Shareware is a marketing method.  For a minimal 
  51.      investment, you can try a program to see if it fits 
  52.      your needs.  After a short trial period, you are 
  53.      expected to purchase the program by paying the reg-
  54.      istration fee if you decide to use it on a regular 
  55.      basis.

  57. How do I install the program?
  58.   
  59.   1. Install this program for Windows before it can be used.
  60.       
  61.       a. Start Microsoft Windows.
  62.       
  63.       b. Insert the disk in the proper drive.
  64.       
  65.       c. From the Window's Program Manager, select FILE MENU 
  66.          and choose RUN.
  67.       
  68.       d. Type B:\SETUP and press Enter.  Substitute your 
  69.          drive letter for "B:" if your disk is in a 
  70.          different drive.

  72. How do I make it the active screen saver?
  73.    
  74.    1. Once the program is successfully installed, it may be 
  75.       selected as the current screen saver from windows.  
  76.       
  77.       a. From the Windows Program Manager, select MAIN.
  78.       
  79.       b. From MAIN  select CONTROL PANEL.
  80.       
  81.       c. From CONTROL PANEL select DESK TOP.
  82.       
  83.       d. From DESK TOP select the arrow key next to SCREEN 
  84.          SAVER.
  85.       
  86.       e. From the menu, select CUSTOM SCREEN.

  88.    2. The above steps will select this program as the 
  89.       current screen saver.  You should push the SET UP 
  90.       button to set the features of the program up the 
  91.       way you want.  It is possible to select and preview 
  92.       pictures, MIDI files, and CD-ROM songs from set up.

  94.    3. Push the TEST button to run the screen saver program 
  95.       as a test.

  97.    4. Set the desired inactive time for the screen saver 
  98.       program to implement itself.

  100. How do I use the program from the Windows Program Manager?
  101.  
  102.    1. If the Screen Saver program group is not open, double 
  103.       click on it.
  104.  
  105.    2. To run Custom Screen Saver, double click on it's Icon.
  106.  
  107.    3. The program will start in the Set Up Mode.  Select the 
  108.       options you want, then push the Screen Saver button to 
  109.       start the program.

  111. What are the program features?
  112.   
  113.   1. Registered users can add up to 100 Bit Map files to be 
  114.      viewed from anywhere on your hard disk.   
  115.   
  116.   2. Registered users can add up to 100 Midi selections to 
  117.      be played by your midi software as the program displays 
  118.      your pictures. 
  119.   
  120.   3. Use the Bit Map picture files provided if desired.
  121.   
  122.   4. Set the length of time for the picture to remain on the 
  123.      display before the next one replaces it. This time 
  124.      ranges from 5 seconds to 1 minute.
  125.   
  126.   5. Any picture can be used as long as it is in Bit Map 
  127.      form (i.e. it has been converted to the BMP format 
  128.      with the extension .BMP.)
  129.   
  130.   6. You need not copy any picture or midi file to any other 
  131.      directory to use it.  This program can find and use 
  132.      your files from any valid drive and directory on your 
  133.      computer. 
  134.   
  135.   7. You can add or delete picture and midi files and set 
  136.      the picture delay at any time through the standard 
  137.      setup button provided by windows for screen savers 
  138.      or by starting the program from the program manager 
  139.      by double clicking on it's Icon.
  140.   
  141.   8. You can used scanned images of anything you desire as 
  142.      long as the image is save in BMP form.  For an example 
  143.      use the scenes portion of the Picture menu.  One of 
  144.      the pictures is a scanned image of my children at a 
  145.      young age.  The scenes provided are images produced by 
  146.      Vista Pro (TM) by Virtual Reality Laboratories, Inc. 
  147.      The remainder of the images are original art work 
  148.      produced by Andrew Hastings.
  149.   
  150.   9. Most keyboard or mouse activity will terminate the 
  151.      Custom Screen Saver and return you to the application 
  152.      you were using before the screen saver started.  
  153.      However, 2 keyboard keys have special meaning to the
  154.      Custom Screen Saver program.  
  155.        
  156.        a. The " " (space) key will bring up the music 
  157.        selector bar if you are listening to CD-AUDIO from 
  158.        your CD_ROM drive.  The Custom Screen Saver may be 
  159.        terminated from the music selector by selecting
  160.        the STOP button on the selector bar. 
  161.        
  162.        b. The "M" key will toggle any MIDI music being 
  163.        played On or Off. The music can be muted or 
  164.        reinstated with this key.  The pictures you have 
  165.        selected will continue to be displayed at the 
  166.        interval set.

  168.   10.  You can use a Password to protect access to your 
  169.        computer when the Custom Screen Saver is running.
  170.  
  171.   11.  You can leave a message for any visitors you may 
  172.        have while you are away from your computer, or 
  173.        messages you may want to display to the public.

  175.   12.  CD-ROM audio is available in both the registered 
  176.        and unregistered versions.  If your CD-ROM is capable 
  177.        of playing CD-AUDIO, you can select it as the source 
  178.        of music for the Custom Screen Saver.

  180. How much does it cost to register?     
  181.   
  182.   1. The registration fee is $15.00  plus $3.00 for shipping 
  183.      and handling.
